Moderate 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Felt in Northern Pakistan

A moderate earthquake was felt in parts of northern and northwestern Pakistan on Saturday.

According to Islamabad’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the tremor measured 4.4 on the Richter scale. However, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The earthquake occurred at around 9:30 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located 11 kilometers northeast of Burhan in Attock district, at a depth of 14 kilometers.

Tremors were also felt in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. This marks the second earthquake in less than 24 hours in certain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces.

On Friday, tremors were also reported in several cities, including Peshawar and Islamabad.

Northern Pakistan lies along the Himalayan seismic belt, making the region prone to frequent earthquakes. Notably, the devastating 2005 earthquake in Pakistan claimed around 74,000 lives.
