11 Indians Arrested in US for Alleged Visa Fraud Scheme to Obtain U Visa
US police arrested 11 Indians for allegedly staging fake robberies to qualify for a U visa and eventually obtain legal residency and a green card.
Authorities in the United States have arrested 11 Indian nationals who were allegedly living in the country illegally and involved in a visa fraud scheme.
According to reports, the individuals were accused of planning staged robbery incidents in order to obtain a U Visa. The suspects allegedly planned to carry out fake robberies in large grocery stores using imitation weapons.
The plan involved ensuring that the staged robberies were captured on surveillance cameras so they could claim to be victims of a serious crime. By presenting themselves as victims, they intended to qualify for the U visa.
Under US immigration laws, the U visa is granted to victims of certain crimes who assist law enforcement during investigations. This visa can allow individuals to legally remain in the country and later apply for permanent residency, commonly known as a Green Card.
If the charges are proven in court, the accused individuals could face legal penalties under US law.
The case highlights how some individuals attempt to misuse immigration provisions as a shortcut to obtain legal residency in the United States.
