KAHE wins 2nd Cyruff Trophy organised by AURCC

The 2nd Cruyff Tournament, an interview collegiate football competition was organised by Department of Physical Education, Anna University Regional Campus (AURC), Coimbatore on February 06 and February 07, 2026. Dr M Saravana Kumar, Dean, AURC inaugurated the tournament on Friday, 06 February 2026 at 7 AM. The tournament featured a total of 16 teams, 8 from engineering stream and 8 from non engineering stream. The tournament mode was 7 a side for 20 minutes. On Friday, the teams participated in 4 groups and the top 2 from each group made it to the quarter finals on Saturday, 07 February 2026.
Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore (AURCC), Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science (BACAS), Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering (DSCE) and Karpagam Academy of Higher Education (KAHE) made it to the final four. All the matches were very competitive and that the 3rd place playoffs and finals were decided on penalty shoot out augur well for the passionate participation of the players. KAHE and DSCE moved to the finals after ousting AURCC and BACAS in nail biters.
In the 3rd place playoffs, AURCC and BACAS were deadlocked in a goal less draw. AURCC beat BACAS 3-2 in tie breaker penalty shootout. The finals was well competed by KAHE and DSCE. A goal less draw was the result after 20 minutes and KAHE edged past DSEC in the penalty shootout out 3-2. It has to be noted that KAHE were also the winners of the first edition of Cyruff Tournament organised during January 2024.
Athul Krishna M of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering was declared as best keeper while Gokul of Karpagam Academy of Higher Education was adjudged as the best player.
Dr.S.Chandrakumar Mangalam, Academic Director, Rtn.P.Karthikeyan, Treasurer, Rotary Coimbatore Changemakers and Thiru.Vijayakumar, Founder Thayullangal Trust distributed the prizes in the Valedictory Function. The top four teams were presented with certificates, medals, trophy and prize money. Rotary Club of Coimbatore Vadavalli, Rotary E-Club of Coimbatore Changemakers, Slam Gym and Thaayullangal Trust pitched in as sponsors for the tournament.
Dr D Saravanamoorthy, Director of Physical Education, Anna University Regional Campus spearheaded the arrangements and was able supported by a team of volunteers. Dr Saravanamoorthy thanked the leadership of AURC, the participating teams, volunteers and sponsors. He mentioned the tournament is held on honour of legendary Johan Cruyff, the Dutch footballer and manager. He mentioned that the tournament is not only an opportunity for competitive football, but also an ocassion to remember Johan Cruyff and his concept of 14 basic rules which work well in football and everyday life.
