Udumalpet sets a National Record to raise awareness on Mental Health

On a day marking 121 Years of Rotary's anniversary, Udumalpet chose to celebrate not with ceremony but with commitment. On Monday, 23 February 2026 by 10 AM, the Sri G.V.G. Visalakshi College for Women campus transformed into a sea of raised hands, united hearts, and unwavering resolve.

The Rotaract Club of Udumalpet Yuvas, Rotary International District 3203 (comprising clubs in Tiruppur, Erode, Nilgiris, Pollachi and Mettupalayam) successfully organized a historic mass pledge event titled  “HOPE 3203 - Pledge for Life.” The event was led by Rtr. Janaki PL - President  of Rotaract Club of Udumalpet Yuvas and was bolstered by the presence of Rtr. Selvavignesh Periyanayaki T - District Rotaract Representative(DRR) of RI District 3203.

The record event focused on one of today’s most pressing global concerns, suicide prevention and mental health awareness. A total of 1200 participants gathered at the campus, stood shoulder to shoulder and simultaneously took the: “Suicide Prevention and Life Protection Pledge.” The powerful moment was officially recognized by the “Indian Book of Records” under the title: “Maximum Participants Taking a Suicide Prevention and Life Protection Pledge Simultaneously at a Single Location.”

Rtr.Selvavignesh said "Beyond the certificate and beyond the applause, this achievement carried something deeper. It carried responsibility, awareness and hope” Rtr. Janaki mentioned that every raised hand symbolized A commitment to listen, A promise to support and A pledge to break the stigma around mental health. The Rotaractors also presented a pep talk that provided scaring statistics related to suicide and mental heath and how youth leadership, district support, and community participation can ensure a transformation. The event was attended by members of Rotaract District Organisation, RI District 3203, Rotaractors of Udumalpet Yuvas and academic leaders and students of Sri GVG Visalakshi College for Women.
