India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super 8 match in Chennai, posting 256/4 before restricting Zimbabwe to 184/6.

In a crucial Super 8 encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held in Chennai, India secured a commanding 72-run victory over Zimbabwe to register their first win of the Super 8 stage.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bowl first. India made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Sanju Samson and Axar Patel. Samson opened the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma and scored a quick 24 before being dismissed.

Abhishek Sharma returned to form with a solid half-century, scoring 55 runs. Ishan Kishan contributed 38 runs, while skipper Suryakumar Yadav added 33. In the death overs, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma launched a blistering assault. Hardik smashed 50 off just 23 balls, and Tilak remained unbeaten on 44 from 16 deliveries as India posted a massive 256/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 257, Zimbabwe began with Brian Bennett and Marumani at the crease. Marumani scored 20 before falling, and Meyers departed for 6. Captain Sikandar Raza joined Bennett, and the duo built momentum. Bennett played a sensational knock, scoring 97 off 59 balls, narrowly missing out on a century.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals, with Raza scoring 31 off 21 balls before getting out. Ryan Burl (0), Tony Munyonga (11), and Musekiwa (7) failed to make significant contributions. Zimbabwe finished at 184/6 in 20 overs.

For India, Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler with three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube picked up one wicket each.

With this dominant victory, India strengthened their semifinal hopes in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
