The Secretary, Mrs Meena introduced the Reviewer Dr Ronald Hadrien emphasising on his high level of qualifications, his special capabilities to reach the hearts and minds of the students in his addresses.
Dr Ronald started by acknowleding that the audience are already familiar with the book "Mastermind" written by Mr.Mathew Pathros. The book dealt with the enormity of Cyber Crimes clearly outlining how the Perpetrators operate playing on the fear psychosis and debth of trust in human beings. Dr Ronald carried the audience through the Plot, the theme, the story line, the incidents, the linkages and the deceit tactics set up by the fraudster. He was very appreciative of the fast pace of the book and the clever way in which real incidents are linked. He was vocal about the clear definition and well drawn arc of the lead characters. He also took the liberty to suggest that the author should adopt certain changes in the pattern of his presentation. He recorded his liking of the poetic justice delivered in the story and its strong illustration that how greed ruins life. He concluded by commending that it was a wonderful debut novel and looked forward to reading more from the young author.
The author Mr Mathew Pathros thanked the reviewer and the members. He briefly explained his journey of writing the novel. He mentioned that his retired life and his eye for cyber crimes came together to eventually cross many sleepless nights and finally resulted in the book. The members could realise how special the book was to the author.
A fantastic interaction on the book and cyber crimes followed and the intense discussion spiralled over half an hour. From Patron Mr Philip's explanation on codes used by various countries involved in the Second World War to Vice President Mrs Kalaivani's narration of a true incident of duping of an innocent person with a white collar job in foreign country and to many experiences of being targeted by Cyber Crime Operators, all experiences reflected a good understanding of the perpetrators and the vulnerables.
The President Mr N Thiagarajan thanked the members for their presence. He thanked Dr Ronald for his review and explained how Dr Ronalds review was so analytically different from many reviewers. He thanked the author for his book and for his presence. He sought the support of everyone for future meetings of the book club and wished everyone a wonderful 2026.
