Pongal Gift Hamper with ₹3,000 Distribution Begins in Coimbatore

Coimbatore:
Ahead of the Thai Pongal festival, the Tamil Nadu Government has begun distributing Pongal gift hampers along with ₹3,000 cash to eligible families. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had earlier announced that all rice ration card holders and Sri Lankan Tamil refugee families living in rehabilitation camps would receive this special Pongal gift.

The distribution was formally inaugurated in Chennai at Alandur by the Chief Minister. As part of the state-wide rollout, the Coimbatore district distribution was launched at the Sindhamani Cooperative Special Store in North Coimbatore by Coimbatore Member of Parliament Ganapathy P. Rajkumar, in the presence of District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar.

According to an official press release from the district administration, Pongal gift hampers will be distributed through 1,540 ration shops across Coimbatore district to 11,21,208 rice card holder families and 1,082 Sri Lankan Tamil refugee families, covering a total of 11,22,290 families. The total value of this welfare scheme is ₹336.68 crore.

Each family will receive:

  • 1 kg of raw rice

  • 1 kg of sugar

  • One full-length sugarcane

  • Dhoti

  • Saree

  • ₹3,000 in cash

Beneficiaries can collect the Pongal gift hamper and cash from their respective ration shops from Thursday until January 14. To ensure smooth distribution, tokens are being issued to family card holders. Once the gift is received, a confirmation SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number of the beneficiary.

The district administration has urged all eligible families to collect their Pongal gift and benefit from this festive welfare scheme.
