RBI Says 98.42% of ₹2,000 Notes Have Been Returned to the Banking System
The Reserve Bank of India said 98.42% of ₹2,000 currency notes have been returned since 2023, with only ₹5,609 crore still in circulation.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that 98.42 percent of ₹2,000 denomination currency notes have been returned to the banking system since the withdrawal process began in 2023.
As of last month, only ₹5,609 crore worth of ₹2,000 notes remain in circulation. The central bank stated that the high return rate reflects strong public participation in exchanging or depositing the notes through banks and designated facilities across the country.
The RBI continues to monitor the process and has urged citizens holding the remaining notes to complete the exchange or deposit formalities within the stipulated guidelines.
