Low-Pressure Area Likely Over Southeast Bay of Bengal in 48 Hours; Light Rain Forecast for South Tamil Nadu

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours, according to the weather department.

The low-pressure area that prevailed over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal yesterday (February 19, 2026) weakened this morning (February 20, 2026) around 08:30 AM.

Currently, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. Due to this, another low-pressure area is likely to develop over the same region within the next 48 hours.

An upper-air cyclonic circulation is also present over South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala. As a result, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in South Tamil Nadu and the Western Ghats districts.

Light rain is also expected at a few places in North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, while the rest of Tamil Nadu is likely to experience dry weather conditions.
