England Beat Italy to Qualify for Super 8 in T20 World Cup
England defeated Italy by 24 runs in the T20 World Cup to qualify for the Super 8 stage, powered by Will Jacks’ explosive half-century and Jamie Overton’s superb bowling.
England qualified for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup after defeating Italy in their match.
In the ICC T20 World Cup match held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, England won the toss and chose to bat first.
Will Jacks Shines; Italy Set 203-Run Target
Batting first, England scored 202/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Will Jacks played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 53 off just 22 balls, smashing three boundaries and four sixes. Tom Banton scored 30 runs, Phil Salt added 28, Sam Curran made 25, and Jacob Bethell contributed 23 runs.
For Italy, Grant Stewart and Krishan Kalugamage took two wickets each, while JJ Smuts, Ali Hasan, and Ben Manenti claimed one wicket apiece.
Jamie Overton’s Bowling Seals England’s Super 8 Spot
Chasing 203, Italy were bowled out for 178 in 20 overs, handing England a 24-run victory and a place in the Super 8 stage.
Italy opener Anthony Mosca was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball, followed by JJ Smuts, who also departed without scoring. Justin Mosca and captain Harry Manenti then steadied the innings, but Manenti was dismissed for 12.
Justin Mosca and Ben Manenti formed a crucial partnership that helped Italy recover. Ben Manenti scored a quick 60 off 25 balls, including four boundaries and six sixes, while Justin Mosca made 43 off 34 balls with seven boundaries.
Later, Grant Stewart added a brisk 45 off 23 balls, but the rest of the batters failed to make significant contributions.
For England, Jamie Overton delivered an outstanding spell, taking 3 wickets for just 18 runs in four overs. Sam Curran also picked up 3 wickets, conceding 22 runs in three overs. Jofra Archer took two wickets, while Will Jacks and Adil Rashid claimed one wicket each.
