Sanju Samson broke Rohit Sharma’s record for most sixes by an Indian in a single T20 World Cup after smashing 16 sixes in the ongoing 2026 tournament.
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has broken the record previously held by former Indian captain Rohit Sharma for hitting the most sixes by an Indian player in a single ICC T20 World Cup.
The milestone came during the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup, played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5, where India faced England.
In the match, India defeated England by 7 runs to advance to the final of the tournament. Sanju Samson played a spectacular innings, scoring 89 runs off 42 balls, which included 8 fours and 7 sixes. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Rohit Sharma’s Record Broken
By hitting 7 sixes in the semi-final, Samson surpassed the previous record held by Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma had earlier held the record for the most sixes by an Indian in a single T20 World Cup, smashing 15 sixes in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
In the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson has now hit 16 sixes, officially breaking Rohit Sharma’s record.
